Checklist

Important safety note

Before starting, ensure you have a clean, private workspace, a computer with an updated browser, and a stable internet connection. Keep the Trezor box sealed until you begin; verify tamper-evident features. Never input your recovery seed into any computer or phone — write it on the provided card and keep it offline.

Step 1 — Visit the official start page

URL to use

Why this matters

Navigate to trezor.io/start. Always confirm the URL and certificate in your browser to avoid phishing. The official page offers the latest firmware installer and web interface instructions for Model One and Model T.

Step 2 — Connect the device

USB vs USB-C

Model-specific notes

On-screen prompts

Connect using the cable supplied. If your device requires firmware, the Trezor web app will detect it automatically and prompt an update. Approve actions physically on the device — never allow remote control to approve transactions.

Step 3 — Install firmware & create a new wallet

Follow the wizard

Creating a PIN

Recovery seed creation

Set a strong PIN on the device—this protects against local theft. The device will generate a recovery seed (12, 18, or 24 words depending on model) — write each word on the provided recovery card in order. Store the seed securely offline and consider geographically distributed backups.

Step 4 — Verify & restore

Restoring wallets

Passphrase (optional)

Trezor allows optional passphrase protection (a 25th word). Understand its powerful privacy benefit and the risk of irreversible loss if forgotten. To restore, use the start page's restore flow and enter seed words via device prompts — not on-screen keyboard where possible.

Slide 7 / 10

Step 5 — Connect accounts & manage coins

Supported coins

Using web wallets

Third-party integrations

After setup, you can add Bitcoin, Ethereum, and many other coins via the Trezor Suite or supported third-party wallets. Always confirm addresses on the device screen before sending funds. Keep firmware and software updated to maintain compatibility and security.

Security best practices

Do's and don'ts

Backup strategies

Reporting lost/stolen devices

Do enable PIN and consider a metal backup for your recovery seed. Don’t share your seed or enter it online. If your device is lost, funds are safe if seed is undisclosed; restore to a new hardware wallet immediately if compromise is suspected.
